This is Steve Jobs, speaking at Stanford's graduation in 2005.

그에게는 대학 졸업장이 없었고, 그날이 졸업식에 가장 가까이 다가간 날이었습니다.

He had no college degree, and that day was the closest he ever came.

저는 여섯 달 만에 학교를 떠났고, 정말 좋아하는 수업만 청강했습니다.

I left school after six months and sat in on the classes I actually loved.

그중 하나가 서체 수업이었는데, 아름답지만 제 앞날에는 아무 쓸모가 없어 보였습니다.

One was calligraphy, a beautiful subject with no use for my future at all.

십 년 뒤, 첫 매킨토시를 만들던 중에 그 수업이 되살아났습니다.

Ten years later, that class returned while we were building the first Macintosh.

"앞을 내다보며 점을 이을 수는 없습니다. 오직 뒤돌아볼 때만 이을 수 있습니다."

"You can't connect the dots looking forward; you can only connect them looking backward."

스무 살에 저는 친구와 함께 부모님 차고에서 애플을 만들었습니다.

At twenty I built Apple with a friend, working out of my parents' garage.

십 년이 지나 회사는 거대해졌고, 그러다 이사회가 저를 그 회사 밖으로 밀어냈습니다.

Ten years on it was a huge company, and then the board pushed me out of it.

"애플에서 해고당한 일은 제게 일어날 수 있었던 가장 좋은 일이었습니다."

"Getting fired from Apple was the best thing that could have ever happened to me."

서른세 해 동안 저는 아침마다 거울에게 같은 질문을 던졌습니다.

For thirty-three years I asked my mirror the same question each morning.

그 답이 며칠이고 계속 아니오였다면, 무언가 바꿔야 한다는 뜻이었습니다.

When the answer kept coming back no, day after day, I knew I had to change something.

그는 그 연설을 네 단어로 마무리했습니다. "Stay Hungry. Stay Foolish."

He closed that speech with four words. "Stay Hungry. Stay Foolish."
